Steadfast

  Psalm 52:8-9

But I am like a green olive tree in the house of God; I trust in the mercy of God forever and ever. I will praise You forever, because you have done it; And in the presence of Your saints I will wait on Your name, for it is good.

As I studied this Psalm, the words trust, praise, and wait stood out to me. Even though David's desires had not come to fruition, he would praise the Lord in the waiting because he trusted in Him.

David compared himself to a green olive tree in the house of God. As I studied the significance of the olive tree, I found this tree symbolizes faithfulness and steadfastness. Regardless of the weather conditions, the olive tree will continue to live and produce fruit. Even being cut down and destroyed, the roots of the olive tree grow so deeply a new tree will grow back in its place. David was declaring he would be faithful regardless of what happened, standing steadfast in his trust in the Lord.

As I considered my desires, I thought about my faithfulness and never wavering steadfastness before the Lord. Do I stand firm, trusting He will bring it to pass? Do I praise Him in the waiting, knowing His ways are not mine? And, do I trust Him, even when I don't understand what He is doing?

In one of the Bible Studies I participated in, there was a prayer that went something like this;

Dear Lord,
 I don't understand it and I don't like it, but; regardless of how I feel, or my desires,  I will trust You, as I wait on You to do what I know is best.
                                                                    In Your precious name I pray,
                                                                                                      Amen

Our faith is not to be built on what we see, nor how we feel. Our faith is to be built on our steadfast trust in our Father's wisdom, and our willingness to praise Him in the waiting. God is never late, and He is never early. He is exactly on time. May we be like David, faithful and steadfast, trusting in the mercy of God forever and ever.

                                    GREAT is the LORD, and greatly to be praised.
